Spaceman at Computer

Comic - Spaceman at Computer

Author Commentary

Spaceman Jackson returns.   I've been holding onto this one for a while hoping I could come up with a better punchline than what's essentially "beam me up, Scotty, there's no intelligent life down here," but hopefully it works in the context.

The fact that capacitive gloves actually exist freaks me out.  Not the ones that are meant to keep your hands warm AND work with your phone, but the ones that are meant to work better with a touchscreen than your own fingers.  This, to me, seems like we're adapting ourselves to interface better with computers instead of adapting the computers to better serve us, and this is exactly the type of thinking that will put us in a submissive position when the robot wars come.

Sorry, Jackson. We forgot to include the hi-tech stick for manipulating the keyboard with gloved hands. Actually, we didn't forget it, but were afraid that crows would learn how to use our technology if a stick interface was used.

Nice! Extra points for using "thataway..."

Chuckles all the way through, and I second @verystrange's extra points.

Normally it's hard to top the actual comic, but Brass Orchid for the win here.

Roger, Jackson. Use your Johnson.

Luckily, I've already uploaded 10 GB of music to my suit's sound system. I probably won't get tired of those songs before I reach that distant cluster.

Poor Johnson. He could have just plugged his suit's system into the laptop but none of the 120 different USB tips he brought was the right one.

Funny, but of course the reason we can manipulate nature so well is that we can make and use tools. Surely Jackson could find some way to create a pointing tool that can be held in a fist and used to poke small keys? Granted the environment is unpromising.

The sign says "Now leaving the Milky Way and entering the Pecan Cluster". I can't believe that Mars Inc. has that sort of an advertising budget.
